There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a hypnotist. So many, in fact, that I have a video on that subject on my YouTube Channel. One thing I really want to stress, however, is the importance of participating in continuing education. The hypnotist you choose should be regularly attending opportunities to learn more. In order to remain an active member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, you must complete 15 hours of continuing education every year. I’m proud to say that every single year I have more than double the hours necessary to re-certify.

Though the basics of hypnosis remain the same, there are hypnotists around the world discovering new techniques and strategies to better help their clients and it’s important to see those advances. In the past year, I have attended a NGH workshop on weight loss that gave me several new techniques that I’ve incorporated into my program. One technique has proven to be extremely helpful with clients who have hit a plateau in their weight loss journey. I also participated in an online learning program with the American Hypnosis Association that qualified me for the title of Hypnosis Weight Loss Specialist. I’ve also attended programs on Helping With Forgiveness, Smoking Cessation, and many others.

It’s important for all hypnotists to be aware of advances in our field and be able to incorporate them. There have recently been outstanding studies on using hypnosis to help with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Tinnitus, and PTSD. Attending workshops, reading up on research, and participating in events with other hypnotists ensures that your hypnotist is aware of the best techniques and the best way to help our clients achieve success.
